Previously, a complex web of taxes impacted the final price you paid for a bottle of wine. While the full structure remains, two key taxes have been adjusted:
- Import Duty: Previously, a hefty import duty of 54-60% applied to imported wines. This has been temporarily suspended for a year.
- Excise Tax: The excise tax on wine has been reduced from 10% to 5%.
The Fine Print: A Balancing Act
It’s important to note that these are just two out of roughly ten taxes affecting the final price of wine in Thailand. While a positive step, it’s a complex process to navigate. Wine importers, including our valued partners, are currently busy re-registering each bottle with the government to comply with the new tax structure. This is a time-consuming process, causing a delay in updating all our wines.
The Good News: Savings Are Here!
Despite the temporary registration hurdle, we’re proud to announce that a section of our wine selection now reflects the lower tax rates on our website! Currently, 350 out of our 600+ wines have been updated, with the remaining prices being adjusted on a monthly basis. This translates to savings of 5-25% on these select wines!
